Singapore, 26 June 2026 – The 41st ASEAN-Japan Forum in Singapore reaffirmed the commitment of ASEAN and Japan to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) in contributing to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and supporting the implementation of ASEAN 2045; Our Shared Future

The Meeting welcomed the continued momentum of ASEAN-Japan relations following the 28th ASEAN-Japan Summit in 2025 and the steady progress made in the implementation of the Joint Vision Statement on ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation-Trusted Partners and its corresponding Implementation Plan. To date, various activities, programmes and projects have been carried out, addressing approximately 81 per cent of the action lines in the Implementation Plan.  

ASEAN valued the steadfast support of Japan as a trusted partner of ASEAN, for ASEAN Centrality and ASEAN Community-building efforts. Japan reaffirmed its full and unwavering support for the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), which shares the fundamental principles with Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) vision, and reiterated its commitment to working with ASEAN in implementing the Joint Statement of the 28th ASEAN-Japan Summit on the Further Promotion and Implementation of the AOIP. 

Both sides agreed on the need to enhance cooperation to address emerging challenges and seize opportunities, including in trade and investment, through the possible upgrading of the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP) Agreement, digital transformation, energy transition and food security, connectivity, cybersecurity, including combatting online scams, maritime cooperation, climate change, disaster management,  human resource development, culture and people-to-people exchanges, in support of the realisation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. 

Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments of mutual interest and concern, reaffirming the importance of maintaining an open, inclusive, transparent, and rules-based regional architecture, with ASEAN at its centre. The Meeting also underscored the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and adherence to international law in addressing regional and global challenges. 

The 41st ASEAN-Japan Forum was co-chaired by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, Albert Chua, and Senior Deputy Foreign Minister of Japan, Namazu Hiroyuki, and attended by Senior Officials of ASEAN Member States, the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Political-Security Community and their respective delegations.
